Submit Your Nomination
Moment’s Project
Last year in July I was celebrating a phone call saying I had been picked as one of Las Vegas’s Top 100 Women in business. I was so excited to be nominated. When they called to notify me, they gave me the details to check out the magazine and see last year’s nominations. I got to see the spread of the magazine and see how my business would be represented. I was eager to be a part of something so incredible. Unfortunately, after the call I got an email explaining that to be a part of the magazine I had to pay almost $2,000 just to get my headshot with a brief description of my business in one month’s release. I basically was paying for the Top 100 spot. If I wanted to splurge a little, I could pay close to $3,000 for half a page.
I honestly was slightly put off and quite disappointed. I thought that this nomination was a reward and that my business would be represented in the magazine based off this recommendation, not me paying for advertisement. Supposedly, the person who submitted the nomination wanted to stay anonymous but had nothing but amazing things to say about me and how my business has grown. I found this whole ordeal to be a scam. If I am being recognized for my hard work and my business, I will not pay to be titled. I like to earn compliments and rewards, not falsely advertise them.
This situation has made me realize that so many women I am surrounded by and work with deserve to get noticed. I have had the opportunity to work with some astonishing women who fight silent battles every day. Strong women who are going through life and just getting by. Sacrificing themselves for the betterment of others. Whether it be family, friends, or strangers. I wanted to do something to recognize these women. I am a small business, continuously growing, but I feel the desire to start something new.
I am happy to announce Southern Moment’s Photography will now host a yearly gala recognizing 12 remarkable women. Since I am a small business, I will start off with a monthly “Moment”. I will take nominations from other people and randomly chose a woman monthly, who I will then take a “moment” to recognize their efforts. These women will be given a free photoshoot with a professional hair and makeup artist to help them feel empowered. At the end of the year, I will host a gala for these selected women.
So, in conclusion, if you know a local woman who deserves to be recognized send me a message! Tell me what this amazing individual does and why she should be selected!
No matter where you are in life, inspire and empower the women around you. Success is never reached alone, and wisdom and wealth are sweeter shared.
Please feel free to share this message and get the word out. Any woman in Memphis or Desoto County area can be nominated. Thank you and God Bless.

2019 September’s Moment
I am so excited to announce September's Moment! The lovely Susan Guzman! This delightful woman has such a marvelous soul and I am so blessed to have made her acquaintance. Having only spoken to her for a mere few hours, I can see why she was nominated. A teacher for 16 years, mother to three children, one of whom she adopted in recent years, and she and her husband are now opening their home up to foster children. With a kind, quiet smile, and a joyful laugh Susan is truly one of a kind. When asked who inspired her, this was her response, “ Teachers. I’ve met tons in my 16 years of teaching and each one is completely different. My profession is mostly made up of women. I would say in the schools I have taught in at least 95% of the staff have been female. In my current school of 60 employees we have one male, the custodian. Being in a mostly female profession can be rough because women are not always nice to one another. But in my 16 years I’ve met some amazing women that are so above what I could ever dream to be. And I don’t mean that as a dis to myself, but as a shout out to them because it takes a lot to be everything to everybody. Teachers are more than you could ever know. They do things for their students that will never be known to them, but they do it anyway because they are teachers. It makes my heart happy to think about all the things teachers do behind the scenes. They are everyday heroes. I’m proud to be one of them”.

2019 October’s Moment
This month's Moment winner is Lilybell Phillips! What a wonderful, fun woman! Lilybell is such an amazing, hard working mother. She also is a huge advocate for Fit4Mom. She is a wife and a mother to two beautiful children. We had a fun photo session, getting both regular portraits and fitness style portraits.
Her favorite quote from Marilyn Monroe, " A woman is often measured by the things she cannot control. She is measured by the way her body curves or doesn’t curve, by where she is flat or straight or round. She is measured by 36-24-36 and inches and ages and numbers, by all the outside things that don’t ever add up to who she is on the inside. And so if a woman is to be measured, let her be measured by the things she can control, by who she is and who she is trying to become. Because as every woman knows, measurements are only statistics. and STATISTICS LIE".

2019 November’s Moment
Kimber Wright is November’s Moment winner! I am a daycare owner and Mental Health Therapist. Becoming a business owner was very significant for me. It was always something that I felt was out of reach for me and I am so proud of myself for stepping out on faith and taking the risk.
